Portfolio

During my student teaching experience at Mount Lebanon High School, I was responsible for teaching Biology to 10th grade students. Additionally, I was responsible for teaching the curriculum used for the Wildlife Biology elective. Below are a few sample lesson plans and evidence of learning from my student teaching experience.

Food Web Activity

In this lesson, students complete a food web activity to determine whether primary consumers or secondary consumers receive more of the energy supplied by producers. Students work in groups and role play different organisms and form a web based on their different classifications.

Cell Analogy Lesson

In this lesson, students will be instructed to list characteristics of prokaryotes and eukaryotes and see if they are able to draw and label the cells. After, students will participate in guided notes as a class. From there, students will work individually or in pairs to complete this activity relating the cell and its parts to a "bigger picture".

Digestive System Activity

In this lesson, students will be able to explain why organisms need food, how energy is extracted from nutrients in food, and the organs associated with the digestion process. This is accomplished by having students first participate in an instructor-led digestive system simulation. From there, students are given guidelines to develop a project demonstrating the digestion system process.

Wildlife Biology Stations

For the wildlife biology stations, students are expected to take care of a particular assigned station for a 4 week time period. Students are expected to record their data and action in their care maintenance logs. The stations range from watering and taking care of plants (indoor and outdoor), taking care of snakes, frogs, leopard geckos, and various fish throughout three classroom spaces. Students are able to work in groups but are also expected to complete an individual station log.
